Diagnostic Tests
Diagnostic Hearing Evaluation
A series of diagnostic tests will determine your hearing status. If results reveal hearing loss, we can determine the type and severity of the loss, how well you are able to understand speech and if hearing aids are appropriate for you. These findings are discussed with you during your visit.
Tympanometry
Tympanometry is an objective test of middle-ear function to determine mobility of the eardrum and bones behind the eardrum by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal.
Acoustic Reflex Testing
Acoustic reflex testing is an objective test to determine the involuntary muscle contractions that occur in the middle ear in response to high-intensity sounds.
Tinnitus
Noises heard in the ears without external sound present is known as tinnitus and can vary in tone and severity. A tinnitus evaluation tests the levels of your tinnitus and can help us identify how often tinnitus interferes with your daily life and which management options would best benefit you.
Ototoxic Monitoring
As certain ototoxic drugs have been found to cause hearing loss, tinnitus, and/or dizziness, we offer testing to obtain baseline measures of hearing prior to the start of these drugs and then periodically to monitor and check for changes in hearing.
OAE’s
Acoustically evoked otoacoustic emission testing allows us to understand how the outer and inner hair cells of your inner ear are functioning.
Hearing Aid Services
Hearing Aid Fitting
The hearing aids you select for your treatment plan are programmed based on a prescription that is specific to your hearing loss and ear anatomy. Adjustments may then be made based on your personal preferences to sounds to ensure the settings are ideal for you. We will then teach you how to insert, remove and care for your new hearing aids.
Speech In Noise Testing
Tests are completed with and without hearing devices to test for your ability to hear in background noise and evaluate the benefit received from noise management features in your hearing aids.
In-Office Services
Our office is fully equipped to help you maintain the ongoing care of your hearing aids so they will work well for you over the years. It is recommended to have your aids cleaned and tested at least twice per year for optimal hearing. We are able to repair, maintain, clean and warranty most brands of hearing aids in-house.
Real Ear Verification Testing
This test allows a microphone at the eardrum to take sound measures, accounting for your ear’s individual anatomy differences to ensure you are experiencing optimal immediate benefit from your hearing device prescription.
Hearing Aid Repairs
Our office is specially trained to repair many hearing aid needs in-house, in a relatively short period of time. More extensive repairs may require us to send your aid to the manufacturer for repair. If your hearing aid needs repaired, we can help determine the best option for you.
Common Services
Ear Wax Removal Service
Earwax, or cerumen, is a waxy substance produced in the ear canal. It moisturizes the skin of the ear canal while protecting it from debris, bacteria and water. If your ear produces excessive wax, it can block the opening and cause decreased hearing. Our Doctors of Audiology are able to remove this in our offices.
Ear Impressions
Impressions are taken for the purpose of custom hearing protection and custom fit hearing aids. These impressions will take into account the full shape of your ear, revealing the exact contours for a perfect fit.
Custom Earmolds
Custom hearing protection is used for hunters, musicians, or those wanting to protect their hearing from damaging levels of noise (concerts, power tools, etc). Custom earmolds are also used as a vital component of some hearing aids to increase hearing ability without feedback (whistling).
